Bar and red velvet banquettes at Brasserie le Paris on Kurfürstendamm in Berlin, a restaurant interior by CARLO Design
Hotels and restaurants · Mallorca

Hotel interior design on Mallorca,
concept, bespoke furniture and site management.

From Palma, CARLO Design plans interiors for hotels and restaurants on Mallorca: concept, materials, bespoke furniture, lighting and site management through to handover. Our built hospitality references are in Berlin, a hotel lobby and a brasserie on Kurfürstendamm. On the island we work from our Palma studio, with craftspeople we have known for years and an architect registered with the Colegio for the permits.

Vertical garden with green plants and gold floor lamps in the hotel lobby A Floral Lobby in Berlin
References from Berlin

Our hotel and restaurant projects are in Berlin so far.

So the projects we show here are in Berlin. For A Floral Lobby the aim was a hotel lobby where guests want to stay a while. One entire wall is a vertical garden of living plants, gold floor lamps give warm light, and a patterned upholstered bench offers a seat before check-in.

For Brasserie le Paris in the Maison de France on Kurfürstendamm, the team travelled to Northern France to experience real brasseries first-hand. That trip led to the colours bordeaux, petrol and aubergine, along with velvet and brass, countertops based on historical models and lighting by Marie Martin. On Mallorca we work the same way, with the materials and craftspeople of the island.

What we take on as hotel interior designers

Design, one-off pieces and site management.

A lobby or dining room has to take more than a living room: many hands, long evenings, cleaning every day.

i.

Concept and atmosphere

We start with the place, the building and the guests you expect. From that come the layout, a material and colour concept and a lighting plan with separate scenes for lunchtime and late evening.

ii.

Bespoke counters, banquettes and lights

What guests remember about a room is often a single piece: a banquette, a bar, a countertop, a light. We draw these pieces and have them built by workshops we have worked with for years. We choose surfaces that gain patina with use.

Materials that age beautifully
iii.

Site management to handover

We run sites for restaurants and hotels just as we do for homes, covering tendering, coordination of the trades, programme, quality and budget. On Mallorca we are on site every week, with reports for owners and operators who are off the island.

What matters in hospitality spaces

Six questions,
before the first chair is ordered.

A hotel or restaurant has to please guests and work well for the staff. We settle these points early, because changing them later is expensive.

  • i.

    The first impression

What does a guest see in the first seconds? In A Floral Lobby it is a wall of living plants that makes the room feel personal and calm.

  • ii.

    Routes behind the scenes

Service, kitchen, deliveries and cleaning shape the floor plan as much as the guests do. We plan these routes with the operator before placing any furniture.

  • iii.

Light for every time of day

A dining room needs very different light at noon and at night. So we plan separate lighting scenes for day and evening.

  • iv.

    Surfaces for many hands

Counters, tables, upholstery and floors are used and cleaned every day. We choose materials that gain patina over time, and covers that can be changed.

  • v.

    Sound

Even when the room is full, guests should still be able to talk. Upholstery, curtains, rugs and plants help as much as the ceiling does.

  • vi.

    The island climate

Salt air, changing humidity and harsh light call for other metals, woods and fabrics than in Berlin, especially on terraces and by the sea.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Our built hospitality references are in Berlin: the hotel lobby A Floral Lobby and Brasserie le Paris on Kurfürstendamm. On Mallorca we have been planning fincas, townhouses and apartments from Palma since 2022, such as the Arabic Loft. For a hotel or restaurant on the island we draw on both.
For the building permits, yes. We work with an architect registered with the Colegio who checks the design against local regulations and follows the application through at the Ayuntamiento. In Palma the council has to decide on a building licence within three months of complete documents. Which further licences the business itself needs is for you to clarify with your advisers.
For places that are full in summer, usually winter. In Palma noisy works are allowed on weekdays from 9 am to 8 pm, in designated tourist zones from 1 May to 30 October only from 11 am to 7 pm, and not at all on Sundays and public holidays. So we time design and orders for building work in the quiet season.
That depends on floor area, scope and how much is made to measure. We set out our fee after the Project Check, broken down by service. How fee models work in general is explained in How much does an interior designer cost.
Yes, for homes as well as for restaurants and hotels. The condition is a set of construction drawings good enough to tender from; if they are missing, we complete them.
