Good design always begins with a need. One of our greatest needs as humans is to live in tune with our surroundings, because only when we feel at home can we flourish.
We have a handwriting, a way of choosing materials, composing rooms, treating detail. But the sentence we write with it is yours. Every project keeps the signature and adapts to the people who will live there.
CARLO Design was founded in 2015 in Berlin. Today the studio works between two cities, Berlin and Palma de Mallorca, designing private homes for clients who want something more considered than a finished product off the shelf.
What stays the same across every project is the CARLO Design handwriting: a tactile sensibility, a respect for craft, a discipline about what to leave out. What changes is everything else, the brief, the place, the person.
Our work spans architecture, interiors and bespoke joinery. We are involved from first sketch to the moment the last chair is placed. It's a long process, and we prefer it that way: there is no shortcut to a home that fits its inhabitants completely.
We work with materials that age, take on patina and get more beautiful over the years. We work for clients who plan to stay.
Charlotte got her degree at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, where Walter Gropius's founding idea still holds: architecture, interiors and art cannot be separated from one another. It is the philosophy every CARLO Design project is built on.
She refined her European sensibility at the studio of Tomás Alía in Madrid, one of Spain's most respected design practices, before founding CARLO Design in 2015. Today she leads a team of designers and architects across the studios in Berlin and on Mallorca.
Each office serves a distinct geography and a distinct rhythm, but every project draws on the full team.
Our Palma studio leads on Mediterranean projects, fincas, villas and townhouses across the island. We work with local craftsmen, regional materials, and the kind of slow building that Mallorca rewards.
Our Berlin studio leads on urban projects, penthouses, apartments and townhouses in the city. The work tends toward precision: bespoke joinery, layered material, quiet detail.
Nothing reveals a way of working more clearly than holding to it over a long stretch of time.
