Interior design,
from mood to move-in.

Interior design for private apartments, houses, townhouses and fincas in Berlin and on Mallorca: layouts, materials, custom joinery, lighting and furniture, designed as one project and delivered until move-in. We work alongside the architecture or on an existing home on its own. The starting point is a Project Check, where we discuss scope, process and fees.

What we do

A home is the sum of its surfaces,
and the light that hits them.

Decoration comes last. Interior design at CARLO Design begins with the spatial layout, how rooms relate, where thresholds sit, where the eye travels, and works outward from there, through materials, joinery, lighting and finally furniture.

We design custom built-ins where catalogue products would not fit, choose materials we know will age well, and treat lighting as architecture rather than accessory. Every surface in the home is a decision someone made, we make sure it is the right one.

Interior design runs in parallel with architecture, not after it. We start when the floor plans are still in motion, because the best layouts come from rooms designed for the way you will use them.

Brief & Mood
We come to your home, or your future site, and listen. How you cook, how you read, where you keep things, what you cannot stand. From these conversations we build a first mood and a direction.
ii.
Spatial & Material Concept
Layout proposals, material studies, colour direction. We bring samples, tile, stone, wood, fabric, plaster, and show how they work together in your light. You decide with the real material in hand.
iii.
Custom Joinery & Lighting
Built-in wardrobes, kitchen design, bathroom vanities, library walls, bespoke beds. Detailed drawings for every piece, paired with a lighting plan that gets switched on and off in scenes, not single bulbs.
iv.
Furniture & Sourcing
Curated selection of free-standing pieces, from heritage Italian houses to local Mallorquin makers, from contemporary editions to vintage finds. Procurement, logistics and delivery handled by us.
v.
Styling & Handover
Textiles, art placement, plants, the small objects that make a room feel lived-in. We finish your home the day before you move in, not the day after.

Our two studios bring different sourcing networks, Berlin's contemporary makers and the workshops of central Europe; Mallorca's ceramicists, weavers and stone yards. Every project draws on both.

Common questions about interior design.

In five phases: brief and mood, spatial and material concept, custom joinery and lighting, furniture and sourcing, styling and handover. We start while the floor plans are still in motion and deliver until move-in. Each phase ends with a decision you can see and touch.
The architect is responsible for the building: structure, envelope, extensions and the permit. The interior designer is responsible for how it lives inside: the layout within the walls, materials, built-ins, lighting and furniture. At CARLO Design both sit in the same studio, so you do not have to draw the line yourself.
A spatial concept with layout options, a material and colour board with physical samples, drawings for built-ins, kitchen and bathroom design, a lighting plan, furniture sourcing, textiles, and styling with move-in coordination. We adapt the scope to your project; a single bathroom is a different job from a whole house.
It depends on whether there is construction. Within a whole-house project you can typically expect 6 to 12 months including planning and construction. Bespoke joinery and ordered pieces need lead time, which is why we plan backwards from the move-in date.
Yes. Concept, samples and decisions run digitally and in meetings in Berlin or Palma, and we coordinate the execution on site. Many owners furnish their Mallorca house from Berlin or elsewhere without travelling for every decision.
We discuss fees in the Project Check based on scope and floor area. Before you commission us you receive a cost frame for planning and fit-out. We avoid budget surprises by making decisions before anything is ordered.
With the Project Check. Show us the space with photos and a floor plan and tell us how you want to live in it; we come back with a first concept: materials, layout, mood, light.
