Furnishing · Mallorca

Interior furnishing on Mallorca,
selection, bespoke furniture and installation.

From Palma, CARLO Design furnishes apartments, townhouses and fincas all over Mallorca: furniture, lighting, textiles and bespoke pieces. We choose every piece for your rooms. Whatever cannot be bought, we design and have built by joiners we have worked with for years. We coordinate delivery and installation even when you are not on the island. You can commission the furnishing on its own or as part of a renovation.

How we choose

Every piece is chosen for your rooms.

On Mallorca you can buy a lot very quickly. Whether it suits the house is another matter. A Palma townhouse may have ceilings of almost five metres, a finca very thick walls. Then there is the light, harsher than in Berlin, which fades fabrics faster. So we check dimensions in the house itself and look at fabrics in the light of the room before anything is ordered.

Whatever cannot be bought, we draw ourselves: built-in wardrobes, beds, benches, shelving walls. On the island we work with carpenters in Manacor, ceramicists in Pòrtol and stone yards in Felanitx. Further furniture and fabrics come from manufacturers across Europe, new editions as well as vintage pieces.

What furnishing covers

What furnishing with us includes.

Choosing furniture is only part of the job. Planning, making and delivery take more time, and even more so on an island.

i.

Concept and selection

We walk the rooms, measure them and talk about your daily life and the pieces you want to keep. From that we develop a furnishing concept for each room with a layout and a moodboard. Every piece goes into a schedule of items with manufacturer and dimensions, where we also track the budget.

Bespoke furniture

Where nothing on the market fits the niche, the space under the stairs or the crooked wall, we design the piece ourselves and send the drawings to joiners we have worked with for years. Woods, finishes and hardware are agreed with you, and we check the piece before it leaves the workshop.

Why made-to-measure pays off
iii.

Delivery, installation and styling

We place the orders, chase delivery dates and group deliveries where we can. We coordinate shipping, storage and installation on Mallorca and check every piece as it is unpacked. Finally we wire the lamps, hang the curtains and make the beds.

How a furnishing project runs

The schedule is set
by your move-in date.

Made-to-order sofas, imported fabrics and bespoke pieces need lead time, and anything not made on the island has to be brought over by sea. So in the Project Check we work back from the day you want to move in.

  • i.

    Project Check

You send floor plans and photos, we look at the rooms on site or by video and clarify what stays, what is missing and when you want to move in.

  • ii.

    Concept per room

Moodboard, colour and material direction and furniture layouts on the floor plan, plus a budget frame for the pieces that you set.

  • iii.

    Sampling

Fabrics, leathers and woods come to you or to the studio, in Palma or in Berlin. Anything you do not like, we replace while nothing has been ordered yet.

  • iv.

    Bespoke pieces and orders

Drawings to the workshop, orders and deposits to the manufacturers. The schedule of items shows the status of every single piece.

  • v.

    Delivery and installation

Deliveries arrive grouped together and on agreed dates. We report transport damage straight away. You do not need to travel for the deliveries.

  • vi.

    Styling and handover

Last come accessories, pictures and bed linen. We check the rooms against the concept and hand over the house so that you are not looking for anything on the first evening.

Arabic Loft.

A loft in a historic townhouse in Palma. We planned the layout and materials and then chose the textiles and furniture. Limewashed walls, marès stone, hand-glazed ceramics and oiled wood shape the rooms.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Yes. Often the house has just been bought or renovated and stands empty. Sometimes it is furnished and still feels unfinished. We work with what you want to keep and add the rest, for one room or the whole house.
There are two items: our fee, which we discuss in the Project Check based on scope and floor area, and the pieces themselves. Their budget is agreed in advance and tracked in the schedule of items, so you know where you stand before every order. More in How much does an interior designer cost.
That depends on the lead times of the pieces you choose. Made-to-order sofas, imported fabrics and bespoke furniture take longest, stock pieces the least. So we decide and order early.
No. Selection and sampling happen at the studio in Palma, in Berlin or digitally; shipping, storage and installation are coordinated on Mallorca. If you come once, come for sampling in the house itself, because fabrics and woods look different in the island light.
Salt in the air attacks metals, humidity swings strongly between summer and winter, and the harsh light fades fabrics and woods faster. That is why we like to work with oiled solid wood, linen, wool, hand-glazed ceramics and natural stone, which build up a patina over the years. More in Materials that age beautifully.
