Interior furnishing in Berlin,
from choosing the furniture to assembly.

CARLO Design furnishes apartments and houses across Berlin: furniture, lighting, textiles and bespoke pieces, chosen for the rooms you actually have. We handle selection, ordering, delivery, assembly and styling, as part of a renovation or on its own, for instance after buying an apartment.

Yellow vintage cabinet beside a dark wooden chair in an Altbau apartment in Berlin Mitte
Empty or lived-in

First we decide which furniture stays.

People looking for furnishing advice are usually in one of two situations: an empty apartment after a purchase or renovation, or a lived-in one where much does not fit together. Either way we start with the same question, which is what should stay. We plan around the heirlooms, vintage furniture and paintings you are attached to.

Berlin’s Altbau apartments have their own demands. High ceilings, double doors, enfilades and herringbone parquet do not suit cabinets that stop halfway up the wall. In Ode to Schinkel, an Altbau apartment in Mitte, each room has its own muted colour, a green with a hint of sage, a pink with yellow pigments, a petrol, joined by bespoke upholstery and woven textures.

What we take on as your furnisher

Selection, bespoke pieces, delivery and styling.

Interior design fixes the layout, built-ins and lighting. Furnishing brings the furniture, fabrics and lamps you live with there.

Concept, selection and samples

A furnishing concept for every room, with a mood board and a furniture plan. Then we put together specific pieces and bring fabric and wood samples to you, so you can see them in the light of the room.

Bespoke pieces from Berlin workshops

Where standard furniture does not fit, we draw built-in wardrobes, bookcases, dressing rooms and benches. They are made by joiners and upholsterers we have worked with for years, often right up to an Altbau ceiling.

Ordering, delivery and styling

You receive an item list for each room, with maker, dimensions and status for every piece. We bundle deliveries, check each item as it is unpacked and finish with the styling: lights, curtains, bed linen, accessories.

How furnishing works

Five steps,
timed to your move-in date.

Sofas are made to order, fabrics come from abroad, bespoke pieces are built in the workshop. So we set the schedule from your move-in date and order early. We source furniture and fabrics from makers across Europe.

    Walk-through and inventory

We go through the rooms with you, talk about your daily life and your budget, and note which pieces stay.

  • ii.

    Concept and furniture plan

A concept for each room with layout, style direction, materials and colours. You see the furniture plan before anything is chosen.

  • iii.

    Selection and samples

Sofas, tables, beds, lights, rugs and curtains, with samples you can touch. Whatever does not work is swapped while nothing has been ordered.

  • iv.

    Ordering and workshop

Quotes, orders, deposits and delivery dates run through us. In parallel we draw the bespoke pieces and commission them.

  • v.

    Delivery, assembly and styling

We coordinate the carriers and fitters, report transport damage straight away and set up the rooms. You do not need to be at home for any delivery.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Interior design sets the floor plan, materials, built-ins and lighting, in other words how a room works. Furnishing makes it liveable: sofa, table, beds, lights, rugs, curtains and accessories, chosen for the rooms as they were built. You can commission both from us or only the furnishing.
Yes, that is common: an apartment after a purchase, a house standing empty after a renovation, or a second home in the city. We work with what is there and add the rest.
Yes, and often these are exactly the pieces that give a room its character. We include them in the furniture plan, have them restored or reupholstered if needed and choose the new pieces to suit them.
We discuss our fee in the Project Check, based on scope and floor area. The budget for furniture, lighting and textiles is agreed together before anything is chosen and tracked in the item list. How fees are structured is explained in How much does an interior designer cost.
That is set by the lead times of the pieces you choose. Made-to-order sofas, imported fabrics and bespoke pieces take longest, so we decide and order early. We set the schedule in the Project Check, working back from your move-in date.
