CARLO Design plans bespoke kitchens for apartments and houses across Berlin from our studio in Mitte. We work out where the kitchen belongs in the floor plan, draw every cabinet at 1:20 and have it built by joiners we have worked with for years. We coordinate electrics, plumbing, ventilation and installation through to the final inspection.
In a Berlin apartment the first question for a kitchen is where it goes: whether it should open onto the living space, whether a wall has to go, and where water and drainage run through the building. In Les Beaux Pastels on Kollwitzplatz, the newly built kitchen became the hub of two merged apartments. Two widened openings create a long axis from the living room through to the dining room.
Once the position is right, the actual kitchen design begins. We design cabinets, niches and worktops for your room and the way you cook, choose appliances for the way you cook, and match wood, stone and light to the rest of the home. The kitchen is built by joiners we have known for years, some of them based in Wedding.
A kitchen brings joinery, building services and architecture together in a few square metres. That is why we plan all three at once.
Open-plan kitchen or a room of its own, island or single run? We check walls, pipework and the floor build-up before we draw. If a load-bearing wall is to be opened, structural engineering and usually a permit procedure follow. In Berlin we file the application ourselves.
Permits in an AltbauEvery cabinet at 1:20, every joint detailed, every appliance specified. You see wood, stone and hardware as real samples before anything is ordered. This phase ends with a binding cost framework.
Why made-to-measure pays offElectrics, plumbing, ventilation, stone and joinery follow a schedule that we run. We check progress in the workshop every week, oversee the installation and inspect the finished kitchen with you.
Plan your kitchenA bespoke kitchen typically takes four to seven months from the first design to installation. Fabrication is the longest stretch, so every decision is made before it starts.
We look at the kitchen on site or talk by video, take measurements and ask how you cook, eat and tidy up.
First layouts, mood boards and three material directions to choose from. This is where the kitchen becomes open, semi-open or closed.
Drawings at 1:20, an appliance list and samples you can touch. Then you receive a binding cost framework.
Pipework, electrics, walls and floor are prepared while the kitchen is made in the workshop. If risers or other communal parts of the building are affected, the owners’ association resolution has to be in the schedule beforehand.
Joinery, stone and metalwork are made in Berlin workshops, typically in eight to sixteen weeks.
Fitting on site usually takes one to two weeks. Afterwards we go through the kitchen with you, cabinet by cabinet.
Then four short questions. We reply within one working day, with no obligation. We speak English, German and Spanish.
Across our two studios, most of our new work comes through recommendations from past clients. 5.0 stars on Google, 5 reviews for our Berlin studio.
