Modular timber house by the water,
inside colour, wood and light.
Starting point
A family house on a lakeside plot, completed in 2025: modular timber construction on a reinforced concrete base, designed by PRÄGER RICHTER Architekten. 395 square metres of living space on a 1,346 square metre plot. CARLO Design's brief was the interior, from the layout of the built-ins to the last textile, so that forest and water stay present in every room.
Turning point
We worked with the timber the structure gave us and set colour against it: a green kitchen with an orange worktop, a fireplace in glazed green tiles, wallpapers with palms and fans, curtains in rust. The built-ins were made to measure with BAU + ART, from the wardrobe bench at the entrance to the cane-fronted cabinets in the dressing room.
Result
A house as calm inside as the lake in front of it, and nowhere tame. Under the roof, a dressing room with a pale stone island and a skylight, next to it the bathroom with a freestanding tub. On the ground floor, open rooms around fireplace and dining table, with glass pendants hanging from the ceiling like drops.
